QCWA Alberta Wild Rose Chapter 151 Quarterly Report

Chapter 151 had its Spring Luncheon on April 23, 2013. A moment of silence was held for the following Silent Keys: Jean Spenard (VA6JRS) and Lindy Olsen (VE6LO).

Chapter and National President, Ken Oelke (VE6AFO) welcomed new members and guests, and gave an update on his trip to the QCWA National Convention and Board Meeting held in Reno, Nevada on September 28, 2012. While there, Ken took a tour of the Radio Museum in Virginia City. Of particular interest, Ken found the actual transmitter that broadcast station KOWL then used in July 1960. Ken explained that he had received the station during that time and had received a QSL card.

Ken further reported that Chapter Vice-President, Terry Finn (VE6TF) is the Nomination Chair for the upcoming QCWA National Board of Director elections. The next Board of Directors’ meeting is anticipated on October 15, 2013, preceding the QCWA Cruise, which will leave Fort Lauderdale, Florida on October 18th

Chapter 151 will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary on May 18, 2014, sharing the same date with the ARRL 100th Anniversary.

Following the luncheon meeting, Shane Weatherill (VA6SLW), President of the Calgary Rocketry Club, and Craig Stephens, Vice-President, made a presentation on safe rocketry in the Calgary area. The presentation included examples of the many types of rockets, how to build them, and how it can be a great hobby for the whole family.

The next luncheon meeting of Chapter 151 will be held on September 26, 2013.
